On Friday April 20th the Learning Center hosted it's 3rd annual Film Scoring Contest showcase to select a film composer for The Learning Center Production's movie, "Projection". Before the showcase, time was alloted for Berklee students to network with each other and area filmmakers during our 2nd annual Audio for Film Networking Event. This year, there were approximately 70 people in attendance with many filmmakers, including repeat attendee Jeremy Traub who worked with last year's third place winner Christopher Carmichael on his film "Payoff", as well as a representative from the Boston International Film Festival. It is our hope that some of these relationships will develop into film collaborations. After the networking opportunity, Ricardo Poza, the Learning Center's Training Coordinator, gave a talk covering the process of scoring a movie from start to finish, with ideas and suggestions for both filmmakers and film composers, drawing from his own experience in writing music for film. Following a short intermission, the showcase of the finalists began. Building upon the success of our contest last year we had nearly thirty entries for this year's movie "Projection" which was narrowed down to a field of six by approximately 15 screeners. Each contestant had to score two out of three clips from the film, and the submissions of the six finalists were judged by the director Pablo Vargas, last year's contest's runner up Stephanie Olmanni and Berklee film scoring faculty Eric Reasoner, Richard Davis and Sheldon Mirowitz. In the end our grand prize winner was Rishab Rajan, our runner up was Jung-Sik Kim, and in third place Alexis Grapsas. Thanks go out to MOTU and Notion for providing prizes!
