Full Session Schedule

This was the biggest film scoring contest yet! Over 100 filmmakers and film students were on hand, along with numerous Berklee students, to catch the results. With a bunch of cool prizes and a fantastic networking opportunity in the Audio for Film event, contestants had quite a bit to look forward to.

During the finalist showcase, each of the six finalists were revealed, their pieces were played, and they each led a short Q&A about their piece, process and software used. This year's finalists were Austin Creek, Emir Cerman, David McKeever, Giona Ostinelli, Dan Rodrigues, and Sora Park, who all submitted very talented scores for the contest. "H2NO!" director Pablo Vargs led the showcase and presented the awards. The contest concept was for Berklee students to score a three minute scene from the short film "H2NO!". Their pieces were screened anonymously by Berklee staff and studnets, deriving the six finalists who were then passed on to the judging panel.

This year's judging panel included:
Dan Carlin, Berklee Film Scoring chair
Joe Smith, Berklee Film Scoring faculty
Rishabh Rajan, Film Scoring Contest 3 winner
Pablo Vargas, Berklee Director of Learning Support Services and H2NO! director
...and this year's judging panel special guest:
Melissa McDowell, Massachusetts College of Art faculty and Chester College Assistant Professor of Photography & Media Arts

Prizes this year included MOTU's Symphonic Instrument, an 8GB library of sonically superior orchestral samples, Notion notation software, with a sample library recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, and the exclusive right to add Learning Center short film, "H2NO!" to the winner's credits. In addition, Film Music Magazine will feature an article on the competition and the winner's music, and Global Media Online is providing a one-year Film Music Network membership (value $139) and a free copy of "Breaking Into the Film & TV Music Business" audio seminar (value $69) to the contest winner. Congratulations to Austin Creek, this year's Film Scoring Contest winner! Hear his score for the scene from "H2NO!" below.
