Friday, October 12, 2018 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm
150 Mass Ave, Media Center

presented by Jackson McGrail, Learning Center Peer Trainer & EPD Senior

In this event, we will share practical ways to implement Serum into your tracks, and showcase the different styles of bass sounds that can be made. Serum is a software wavetable synthesizer made by Xfer Records.  Capable of easily making great bass patches, Serum is often used in genres such as Dubstep, Trap, and Bass House. We will dissect bass patches in the style of artists such as Skrillex, Kill the Noise, and Virtual Riot, then practice creating sounds from scratch.

Topics:

  1. Overview of bass styles, including wubs, stabs, growls, lead basses, percussive
  2. How to make unique sounds that don’t sound like presets or other artists
  3. Importing samples and wavetable editing
  4. Using the noise osc as a sampler
  5. Multiband compressor, metallic delay, phaser and other FX tricks
